The Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad Research and Resource Hub (MAS RRH@LIBRIS) was unveiled by President Halimah Yacob on 31 March 2021.

The late Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad, MAS, was a highly-regarded Malay scholar whose encyclopedic knowledge and contributions in the fields of Malay language, literature, education and culture remain pivotal in shaping and advancing Malay cultural studies in Singapore and the Southeast Asian region.

MAS had played a significant role in Singapore’s nation-building efforts since before and after Independence through his involvement in many councils and advisory committees at community and national levels.

He was no stranger to NIE having been a lecturer at Teachers’ Training College (TTC) and Institute of Education (IE) from 1959 to 1979, he laid a strong foundation in Malay literacy.

The Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad Research and Resource Hub (MAS RRH@LIBRIS) was established with the aims to:

a.     provide comprehensive research materials on MAS, his works and relevant fields of his interest,

b.     spark interest and motivate the younger generations, in particular, students, academics, researchers and literary enthusiasts to read and carry out research on MAS, and

c.     be a leading resource and research centre on MAS in Singapore and the region.

The Hub aims to continue MAS’ significant intellectual impact and preserve his works for the next generations of the teaching and research profession. The resources of the MAS RRH@LIBRIS can be accessed at https://library.nie.edu.sg/MAS-Resources.
