Professor Low Ee Ling
Professor Low Ee Ling, Dean of Teacher Education and Professor at the English Language & Literature Academic Group at NIE, published a paper titled “A longitudinal study on starting teachers’ retention intentions: Do pre-teaching work experience and length of working years make a difference?” in the journal Teaching and Teacher Education. This paper was co-written with Professor A. Lin Goodwin from University of Hong Kong, Professor Alexander Yeung from Australian Catholic University and Research Associate Ms Cai Li from NIE.
Using a longitudinal approach, the study suggests that prior work experience in other professions and length of working years prior to starting work as a teacher did not make a difference in teachers’ retention intentions. The data is drawn from Prof Low’s OER projects “Building an Evidence-base for Teacher Education: Phase I” and “Building an Evidence-base for Teacher Education: Phase II”.
