Honduran President visits National Institute of Education, Singapore

His Excellency Mr Porfirio Lobo Sosa, President of the Republic of Honduras and his delegation arrived at NIE on the afternoon of 24 February 2011. His Excellency was received by NTU President, Dr Su Guaning, President-Designate, Provost Professor Bertil Andersson, NIE Director, Professor Lee Sing Kong, Principal Officer, Associate Professor Quek Jin Jong and Dean of Teacher Education, Professor Tan Oon Seng.

During his visit, President Lobo and his delegation were informed on NTU’s broad-based and inter-disciplinary education as well as Singapore’s education system with emphasis on NIE’s role in teacher training to equip teachers with values, skills and knowledge to meet the 21st Century global education landscape.

They  were also introduced to NIE’s “Collaborative Classrooms”, which are aligned with NIE’s strategic roadmap to prepare teachers for the 21st Century. These new classrooms are designed to stimulate creativity and promote closer engagement in learning. The design of the classroom aims to drivie group discussions and interactions which would further enable NIE student teachers to improve collaborative, communicative and thinking skills.
