Events Details
Mathematics education is undergoing significant changes
in terms of content and pedagogy. Given the importance of mathematics in our
society, we need to be aware of these fundamental changes. Further, as the form
and substance of school mathematics has evolved from any different disciplines,
we need to understand the theory and practice from psychological, sociological,
philosophical and mathematical perspectives.
In this course, we will discuss developments from
psychological points of view. Various theorists such as Skemp, Dienes and
Bruner and general theories such as constructivism and information processing
will be discussed. The focus will be on the specific implications of theories
for the teaching and learning of mathematics.
