IAL0016 - Symposium on Innovative Teaching and Learning of Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) 2018

  • To promote research and teaching of MTL, as well as to provide a platform for scholars and practitioners of MT language to communicate thoughts and share experiences.

    The Theme: “Innovative Practice, Practice Innovation: Revisioning Mother Tongue Languages Education in Singapore”.

    1. To showcase the latest development of local MTL teaching and the latest achievements in MTL teaching research by ALC academic staffs. This is to allow MTL teachers in Singapore schools to have a better understanding of the latest development and achievements in MTL teaching and research by our staffs and also to show our impact in the MTL teaching domain.
    2. To provide a new overview of MTL curriculum that caters to the needs of Singapore MTL teaching and learning in the future through a Forum by invited speakers who are the experts of this field. By recalling the past and look to the future, a new model and framework of MTL curriculum will emerge.
    3. To encourage discussions amongst MTL and education fraternity on innovative teaching and learning and MTL.
    4. To showcase and share hands-on experience in teaching MTL from the school teachers from ALC Higher Degree Programme. The research is done under the supervision of our ALC academic staffs recently. This is to show that our ALC higher degree programme graduates are capable of theory-practice link research.

    Please note that the Concurrent Sessions 1 and 2 will be conducted in respective Mother Tongue Languages, i.e. Chinese, Malay, Tamil Languages.

    Schools are encouraged to send one representative each from different MTL unit.

    Please note that participants will be charged upon registration and no refund will be given for absentees. Refreshments and lunch will be provided during the symposium.

    Upon confirmation, payment is required for all courses. Payment should only be made after the course placement letter has been sent to participants to confirm the application. Cancellations/withdrawals are not allowed. However, a replacement may be sent to attend the same course.

    Choosing of concurrent session 1 & 2 will be done together with sending the course confirmation email.

    NIE will acknowledge receipt of the application form through email within one week. The course placement letter will be emailed to applicants who have been successfully placed in a course and upon course confirmation.


    Please note that NIE reserves the right to replace an instructor for a course if the lecturer is unable to teach the course due to unforeseen circumstances. No refund of the course fee will be made to participants.
