Friday, 17 June 2016
The 6th International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge organized by Society for Learning Analytics Research took place from 25-29 April 2016 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Dr Elizabeth Koh, a Research Scientist from the Centre for Research in Pedagogy & Practice (CRPP) of OER, presented a paper on her research entitled “A Pedagogical Framework for Learning Analytics in Collaborative Inquiry Tasks: An Example from a Teamwork Competency Awareness Program”. She shared about the Team and Self Diagnostic Learning framework developed in the course of her research, as well as qualitative findings from students and teachers of a teamwork competency awareness program that used dispositional analytics.
Dr Jennifer Pei-Ling Tan, a Research Scientist also from CRPP, presented a paper on her research entitled “Fostering 21st Century Literacies through a Collaborative Critical Reading and Learning Analytics Environment: User-perceived Benefits and Problematics”. This paper was based on her research findings from an eduLab-funded research project WiREAD, a computer-supported collaborative reading and learning analytics environment aimed at nurturing students’ 21st century critical literacy, self-regulated and social knowledge construction competencies.
During both presentations' Q&A session, the audience raised excellent questions and responded well by generating buzz on social media platform Twitter in the forms of “tweets” and “likes” pertaining to the presentation.
Dr Tan also received acknowledgements for her role as the Programme Chair for Posters and Demonstrations at the conference.
The conference was attended by over 400 practitioners, researchers, administrators, government and industry groups in the field of learning analytics and related disciplines.
