Friday, 25 August 2017
The school partnerships team of the Office of Education Research (OER) co-organised a practitioner-researcher dialogue session with the East Zone Centre of Excellence for Research (EZ COE) on 23 August 2017 at Temasek Junior College.
This session sought to raise awareness about how educational research can enhance teaching and learning and foster practitioner-researcher initiatives to enrich students’ educational experience. The participants included school leaders and teachers from schools in the East and West Zones.

The session began with a gallery-walk presentation led by three NIE researchers, who presented their research on topics that included student motivation, lesson study, and peer-assisted learning strategies. The researchers and their presentations are as follows:
- Dr Melvin Chan (Research Scientist, Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, OER) – Insights from CORE Research Studies
- Dr Christina Lim-Arasaratnam (Senior Lecturer, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Academic Group) – Beyond Form and Structure and Teacher Professional Development: Implications of Adapting Lesson Study in non-Japanese Contexts
- Dr Tan Chee Soon (Lecturer, Psychological Studies Academic Group) – What Can be Done to Meet the Learning Needs of Students?
Following the gallery-walk presentation, teachers and researchers gathered to discuss the needs of students and teachers and exchange ideas on how educational research can be translated into practice. Teachers also suggested possible new areas of focus in educational research and expressed their interest in collaborating with NIE researchers on initiatives that would facilitate professional development and enrich students’ learning.
