Dr Imelda Caleon Conducts a Lecture Series at the De La Salle University in the Philippines

Dr Imelda Santos Caleon, Research Scientist from the Office of Education Research, was invited to conduct a series of lectures at the De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines from 18 to 22 June 2018. The highlight of her lecture series was a plenary presentation entitled “Turning Achievement Around: Factors and Conditions Promoting Academic Resilience in Singapore Schools”, which she conducted during the 2018 Research Congress hosted by the university.
This plenary presentation showcased the key findings of her recently completed research project “Turning Achievement Around: Predictors of Academic Resilience of Academically At-Risk Students in Singapore”. In addition, she also conducted the workshop “Making Social Capital Visible: A Workshop on Social Network Analysis” for the participants of the Research Congress.
During her week-long engagement at the university, she also delivered the following presentations: “Towards Evidence-based and Evidence-influenced Policies and Practices: An Overview of Education Research in Singapore” and “Positive Education: Fostering Positivity in Schools”.
Two additional workshops were conducted which showcased the positive education packages that her research team developed as part of another research project “Nurturing Positivity: A Positive Psychology Intervention to Enhance Well-Being, Engagement, and Achievement among At-Risk Students”. The talks and workshops were attended by at least 100 graduate students and faculty members of the university.
