Dr Rhoda Myra Garces Bacsal Delivers Speech at Ayrton Senna Institute, São Paulo

Dr Rhoda Myra Garces Bacsal, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood and Special Needs Education Academic Group (ECSE AG) delivered a speech titled “Transformative Teacher Education through Reading for Social and Emotional Learning” at Ayrton Senna Institute on 24 October 2017. The audience consisted 60 Childhood, Elementary and High School experts from all over Brazil. They included some of the most relevant Ministries of Education from 5 main capital municipalities of Brazil, from south to northeast of Brazil: Natal, Recife, Maceió, Salvador and São Paulo, the biggest city in Latin America. Representatives from the third sector organizations such as Itaú Social Institute, Unibanco Institute, Natura Institute, Maria Cecília Souto Vidigal Foundation, Todos Pela Educação Movement also attended the seminar.

Dr Myra’s presentation arose from an OER project “Reading Lives and Practices of Singapore Teachers and the Use of Multicultural Children's Literature to promote Socio-emotional Learning” https://www.nie.edu.sg/project/oer-15-14-rb. She was also interviewed by the the Ayrton Senna Institute, Sao Paolo.
