ELL Seminar: Envisioning Knowledge by Distinguished Professor Judith A. Langer
Wednesday, 23 January 2013
Professor Langer will begin with a
discussion of movements in the United States and other countries toward college
and career readiness and how these intersect (or don’t) with other strong
concerns regarding the development of creative and innovative thinking.
These movements can stand in tension with one another as well as with the move
to incorporate literacy instruction into all subject coursework, including
English language and literature. From here, she will call on her latest book (2011), Envisioning Knowledge, to offer a way to think about both
knowledge and literacy within the specific disciplines. Ample time will be left for discussion.
Date: 23 January 2013 Time: 1030hr - 1200hr
Venue: NIE Lecture Theatre 9, Block 3, Level 1
