First 2015 batch of NIE students graduate

SINGAPORE: Close to
450 National Institute of Education (NIE) students graduated with their
teaching qualifications on Friday (Jan 16).
They are the first batch of graduates this year, with some
receiving their Postgraduate Diploma in Education - a
programme that prepares university-degree holders to become school
Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, who attended the graduation
ceremony, also presented awards to graduates with outstanding academic achievements.
He also advised the graduates to keep honing their craft as
teachers, not only for the benefit of their students, but also in the spirit of lifelong
learning: "On a day-to-day basis, it means that you stay inventive, you weave
different areas of knowledge into your lessons, you stay alert to your
students' social-emotional developments, and you help your students discover
how their lessons apply to the real world."
