MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOLS GRADUATION CEREMONY JANUARY 2008 ON THURSDAY, 24 JANUARY 2008, 3.00PM AT LECTURE THEATRE 1, BLOCK 6, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, 1 NANYANG WALK, SINGAPORE
A cohort of 160 teachers will receive their Management and Leadership in Schools (MLS) certificates on Thursday, 24 January 2008, upon completion of their head of department (HOD) training at the National Institute of Education (NIE). Mr Winston James Hodge, Director, Training and Development Division, Ministry of Education (MOE) is guest of honour for this ceremony.
The MLS is a four-month programme for departmental heads and school leaders who may in time assume significant managerial responsibilities in schools. The programme is designed by NIE's team of experts and professionals in consultation with MOE. Managed by NIE's Graduate Programmes and Research Office, this innovative programme prepares HODs to be exemplary people managers and experts in teaching and learning. Besides addressing issues and technologies impacting education, a major part of the MLS programme focuses on team learning and curriculum innovation. On completion of the course, the graduands will be ready to lead initiatives in curriculum advances and take their schools to new levels of achievement.
Key features of the MLS programme are: Diversity of learning experiences designed to generate new knowledge; flexibility in tailoring an individual programme by selecting modules that are of direct use; exposure to the insights of senior figures from the world outside education; and availability of elective modules conducted at NIE for the upgrading of knowledge and skills of HODs.
The programme and list of MLS award winners are detailed in Annexes A and B respectively.
Please also refer to Annexe C for the synopsis of the two innovative MLS Curriculum Projects done by participants.
