Wednesday, 30 January 2013
Written by teachers, curriculum specialists, and teacher educators, this
collection of 18 chapters documents, in sustained and critical fashion, the
realities and possibilities of Literature education in Singapore schools.
Collectively, these chapters address a broad range of issues including: the
history and philosophy of Literature education in Singapore, policy changes and
curriculum development, school-wide and level-wide approaches to the
implementation of Literature programmes, specific classroom pedagogies for the
teaching of drama, poetry, prose and film, approaches to writing and
assessment, interdisciplinary connections between Literature and other
Humanities subjects, and the everyday challenges that Literature teachers face.
Attentive to the vital links between theory and practice, each essay in this
collection offers theoretical ideas and practical suggestions for the teaching
of Literature in a range of schools and classroom contexts, along with
concluding questions that aim to provoke further critical thinking among
authors and readers.
The book will be available from 1 March from Kinokuniya at
$35.40 (GST included). It is also available at the NIE Campus bookstore at
