What are the best types of schoolbags for children? A news report by SURIA on 15 December 2017 discussed the selection of good schoolbags that ensure a child’s health and posture is preserved. The report carried comments from parents and experts. Among them was fourth-year student teacher from the Physical Education and Sports Science Academic Group, Ms Habibah Najihahbi Ahmad, who offered an interesting perspective from her research.
Based on her final year project that studied the types of bags suitable for use by school children abroad and locally, she opined that parents who want what’s best for their children often choose bags labelled as “ergonomic”. However, she cautioned that the purpose of the ergonomic bag, its characteristics and whether it is best suited for a specific child’s needs in usage should be further considered. She said that ergonomics is a practical science that focuses on the design and customisation of goods so that it can be used effectively and safely but may not necessarily mean that these have the best options sold in the market.
