GRADUATION CEREMONY: 20 JANUARY 2012 AT 3.00 PM, NANYANG AUDITORIUM, NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY, SINGAPORE 639798
The National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore celebrates the first graduation of student teachers for 2012 on Friday, 20 January 2012 at 3.00 pm.
NIE's celebrations will see a total of 320 newly qualified teachers who will join the teaching profession this month at the NIE Teachers' Investiture Ceremony (TIC) held at the Nanyang Auditorium, 50 Nanyang Avenue, Nanyang Technological University.
In addition, this year marks the inaugural Bachelor of Education (B Ed) programme graduands. The Programme is specially designed for non-graduate primary school teachers in Singapore who wish to obtain a degree through a part-time programme. Its components are customised to further benefit teachers who have at least 2 years of classroom teaching experience to enhance their understanding of curriculum structure, content and establish clear links between pedagogical theory and actual classroom practice. The 28 graduating teachers had joined the three-and-a-half-year B Ed programme since July 2008.
NIE is also pleased to welcome Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education who will grace the ceremony as Guest of Honour. Mr Heng will award 5 outstanding teachers with prizes for their academic achievements at the ceremony. Amongst the prize winners, Mr Joey Yeo is the only recipient who will receive two prizes – they are, the Singapore Teachers' Union Book Prize and Justice Choor Singh Book Prize.
In his speech, NIE Director, Professor Lee Sing Kong, will also announce the complete transformation of NIE's tutorial teaching facilities. A total of its 72 new Collaborative Classrooms have been customised to incorporate features that simulate a first-hand experience of the 21st century classroom environment.
