OER Hosts Teachers from Hong Kong

The Office of Education Research (OER) hosted a delegation of primary school teachers from Hong Kong on 1 August 2017. The teachers are participants from CoolThink@JC – a programme that seeks to foster digital creativity in students and nurture them to be problem-solvers and creators in the digital age.

During their visit, researchers from OER’s Learning Sciences Lab (LSL) gave presentations on their research into ICT innovations in schools and design thinking. The presenters and their presentation titles are as follows:
- Dr Jennifer Tan (Assistant Dean, Knowledge Mobilisation, OER) and Dr Elizabeth Koh (Assistant Dean, Research Translation, OER): Fostering 21CC and Achievement – Pedagogical Innovations Leverage ICT
- Dr Kenneth Lim (Research Scientist, LSL, OER): Design Thinking, Digital Making and Related Innovations

Following the presentations by OER researchers, the teachers gave an overview of the CoolThink@JC programme and how it has been implemented in Hong Kong schools.
The visit concluded with a discussion led by Prof Looi Chee Kit, Head of LSL, on the implications of technological innovations on the classroom and the directions forward for teacher development, particularly in the use of ICT in teaching.
