Singapore: Three teachers were given the Outstanding Youth Educator award Tuesday.

The award recognises teachers below the age of 30 for their idealism, energy and active involvement in youth development.

Samuel Lim from Swiss Cottage Secondary, Muhammad Fadylla Rashiman from Boon Lay Garden Primary, and Yuen Chai Lin from Pioneer Secondary were selected from some 300 nominations.

Besides their teaching duties, this year's winners also coached a sepak-takraw team, held musical workshops, and organised skill-based electives for Normal Technical stream students - such as in hairstyling.

The awards were given out at the Teacher's Investiture Ceremony, which began Tuesday.

Some 2,000 teachers will join the ranks of the teaching fraternity over the next two days.
