In February 2008, NIE’s Bachelor of Arts Club (BA Club) held its inaugural photo contest entitled ‘Stories of NIE’. Contestants were asked to submit pictures of NIE that they found meaningful.
Held at the Nanyang Auditorium on 1 August, the NIE Grand Welcome 2008 was a feast for the eyes and soul. Packed with inspiring speeches and fantastic performances, the event showcased the best of NIE talents and culture which caught the audience’s undivided attention till the end.
NIE kick-started the celebration of Singapore’s 43rd National Day with two exhibitions on 4 August 2008. The ‘Living History: Tracing our Customs and Traditions’ exhibition from National Archives and ‘Get-to-know Singapore’ poster exhibition based on stamp-based books by ex-NIE staff, Dr Tan Wee Kiat.
The NIE Crisis Management Committee conducted two exercises on campus, namely the Contact Tracing Exercise from ‘confirmed Avian Flu cases’ and a Fire Drill exercise from a ‘lab explosion’.
NIE celebrated Teachers’ Day with a Learning Festival and Awards Ceremony for the Passion Award and the NIE Club Award on 28 August 2008.
Club Jeux, together with Settlers Cafe, Singapore's first and largest board games cafe and Melchiz Pte Ltd, a training company which uses games as a medium, hosted a one-day workshop in June.
