The Malay Language and Culture division of the Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) academic group of NIE hosted to a seminar on 26-27 July 2008 dedicated to the late Dr Masuri bin Salikun (better known in literary circles by his nom de plume, Masuri S.N.), recipient of the Tun Sri Lanang Award and a renowned poet in the field of Malay literature.
In June this year, NIE made an added mark in the international language arena when three of our Chinese Language Experts were invited to speak at an event organised by the Research Centre into Language Education in Multilingual Societies (RCLEMS), Hong Kong Institute of Education.
For the first time in its history, the Asia-Pacific Conference on Giftedness (APCG) was held in Singapore from 14 to 18 July 2008.
Proud Representation by NIE Student Teachers in United Nations’ Student Conferences in Local and Global Arenas
On 12 July 2008, NIE student teachers who helmed the United Nations Student Association of NTU-NIE, Shoon Ming Hui, (Year 4 BA Sec) David Teo Kim Seng, (Year 4 BSc student) Radha Samikannu (BA Year 2 crossover student) and Bhairavi Lachmanan (Dip Ed Year 2) did NIE proud by being plenary and workshop presenters at the United Nations Association of Singapore (UNAS) Student Seminar 2008 with the theme ‘Facing the Challenges of Poverty, Peace & Security and Environmental Degradation: The UN and Development over the last three decades’.
On 5 September 2008, NIE’s student teachers, faculty, educators and researchers from various fields of education joined the Early Childhood and Special Needs Education (ECSE) academic group for its second research seminar.
