Creative Work (Student Writing)

AAE 43P Special Topics in Language & Education

These are the six short-listed stories from the August 2017 semester of AAE 43P Creative Writing in the Classroom. The best story, as deemed by the panel of judges, was Choo Mei Fang’s Forty Years, while Estella Khin’s Love Is Not A Square was a close second. The other finalists were (not in any particular order) Shehnam Khan’s Selamat Hari Raya, Nicholas Tan’s Boy & His Cat, Lisa Chi’s Missing, and V Praveenkumar’s Perceptions.

As part of the course, students work on a final portfolio of 3 stories each, drafts of each to be worked and reworked until they pass muster—becoming stories that are a credit to the respective writer.

Mei Fang receives a $50 book voucher, Estella a $30 voucher, and the others all get a $20 voucher. The writers all take English Language as a specialisation.

The four judges were Dr Anitha Pillai, Dr Sally Jones, Dr Donna Lim and Dr Angelia Poon.
