Teachers' Language Development (TLD) Courses

The Teachers' Language Development (TLD) suite of courses aims to enhance the academic development of student teachers at NIE by focusing on improving their academic discourse skills and upgrading their subject content knowledge. Additionally, they also aim to support the professional development of student teachers as effective communicators in the workplace by focusing on improving their communication skills, and pronunciation for effective delivery of disciplinary content.

The Teachers’ Language Development (TLD) suite of courses at NIE comprises the following:
        - Language Enhancement and Academic Discourse Skills (LEADS) courses
        - Certificate in English Language Studies (CELS) courses
        - English Language Content Enhancement (ELCE) courses

a) The LEADS modules
        - Communication Skills for Teachers (for ALL student teachers)
        - Academic Discourse Skills (for student teachers enrolled in the BA/BSc (Ed) Programme)
        - English for Academic and Professional Purposes (for student teachers enrolled in the DipEd Programme)

b) The CELS modules
     (for student teachers taking English as a Curriculum Studies (CS) subject in the  
    DipEd and BA/BSc (Primary) programmes)

c)  The ELCE modules
     (for student teachers on the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) taking
    English as a Curriculum Studies (CS) subject)
