LEARNING AND TEACHING @ NIE: PRINCIPLES FOR EDUCATING TEACHERS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
"Learning and Teaching @ NIE” was developed to provide NIE academics and teacher educators with an information document highlighting the Institute’s current key pedagogical propositions and perspectives as it aims to fulfil its strategic objective to be Singapore and the world’s pre-eminent teacher education institute.
With the learner at the heart of NIE’s educational programmes and pedagogies, “Learning and Teaching @ NIE” comprises three main dimensions involving the teacher, the learner, and the learning environment.
To be a catalyst in harnessing educational technology to strengthen 21st century pedagogies to enable National Institute of Education to attain distinction in Teacher Education.
The Learning Designers provide instructional design, facilitation and consultancy services for the effective use of (technology-mediated) pedagogies, instructional strategies, assessments, and educational technologies to enhance the quality of NIE’s pre-service, in-service and graduate programs.
The Educational Technologists administer NIE’s Learning Management System (GeNIEus) and adopt emerging educational technologies for the institute. The team provides consultancy and skills training for academic staff and student teachers to integrate ICT into their lesson.
The Interactive Media Design team creates e-Learning contents which include animation, interactive, web and graphic design and development. They also provide consultancy for the following multimedia services such as Flash Packaged Lessons, Interactive Web design for teaching and learning and Digital Presentations.
The Video Production team produces video-based teaching & learning materials to support and sustain Innovative Pedagogy. They also provide consultancy and technical support to faculty members by planning and managing audio and video recordings and productions.
The Application Programmers develop dynamic web and mobile applications to support and enhance pedagogical innovations and directions of NIE faculty. The team design and develop tools to support pedagogical research projects (data visualization & learner analytics) and produces e-learning workflow solutions to support relevant educational programmes.
