Mdm Julistiara is a Geography and Social Studies educator. She received her B.A in Geography from National University of Singapore and her Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), specializing in the teaching of Geography and English Language. She received her M.A in Social Studies from Nanyang Technological University. She is currently a Teaching Fellow with Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group, National Institute of Education.
Mdm Julistiara teaches the PGDE programmes offering Social Studies pedagogy courses though the Social Studies-pre service programmes and in-service courses for MOE teachers. Currently, she is part of a team collaborating with some secondary schools to study the way teachers carry out discussion-based lessons in the Social Studies classroom. The collaboration will help to ease teachers’ concerns when it comes to planning and carrying out discussion-based lessons in their Social studies classrooms.
Mdm Julistiara has 20 years of teaching experience. This includes being a Senior Teacher (Geography) since 2010 and Social Studies Coordinator since 2008 within MOE. She has served as a team leader in PLC (Professional Learning Circle) in schools looking into ways to infuse Assesement for Learning and Differentiated Instructions into the Classroom teaching and Learning. She has also served as a teacher mentor since 2004.
