Research Interests
Chinese Lexicology and Chinese Character, particularly in the areas of Chinese Grammar, Teaching of Chinese; Chinese Linguistics

  • Dr Xu Feng is a Lecturer in the Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group. Dr Xu obtained his PhD from Fudan University in 1998. He has worked at East China Normal University and Kanagawa University of Japan from 1998 to 2006.

    Dr Xu has taught a range of courses across the various programmes, viz., DipEd, PGDE, BA, MEd and MA in the Chinese Language and Culture division. Dr Xu’s current research covers Teaching Chinese as an International Language (TCIL), Chinese linguistics, Global Mandarin, Language Policy and bilingual education. His research papers have been published in leading journals in the field of linguistics and Chinese language, such as Language Teaching and Linguistics Studies, Linguistics Study, Lexicographical Studies, Chinese Language Learning, and Overseas Chinese Education. His recent book, Overseas Chinese Vocabulary and Grammar: Teaching and Research was published by Fudan University Press (2015). He was invited as a member of the Editorial Board for a Linguistics Journal Overseas Chinese Education from 2017.
