Developing a Research Repository at NIE: Bridging the Knowledge Gap in the Research-Practice Nexus

Project Number
DEV 01/13 LA

Project Duration
January 2014 - September 2016

The aim of the project is to develop a prototype knowledge repository of research at NIE that will serve as a knowledge base. It serves to capture the explicit knowledge, as derived from published research papers as well as research project reports from NIE in the past ten years. Such a repository is the basis upon which metaanalyses can be carried out, with the intention that such insights will serve to further knowledge translation into policy and practice for MOE schools. One key tool for mining the information within such a knowledge base is text-analytics which are primarily semantic-network mining software. Such a tool can also lead to the development of a taxonomy such that the documents can be classified and sorted. The target users of the knowledge repository will primarily be KM team who will be involved in the preparation of resports for the management of OER as well as management of NIE in examining research from a macro-perspective, and which will be useful in strategic planning of manpower and resources. The repository can also be queried using a simple search engine, that will allow any user to do simple searches of the knowledge repository. The second aim of the project is the development of a prototype of an expertise locator system which will serve to identify loci of expertise at NIE. The expertise locator will be available to the public as well as NIE researchers to use.
